“You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripple for change.”
Tim Cook
Change always starts with one person who is willing to be the first, to be the pebble and start the ripple of change.
If you want to see change in the culture of your agency; be the pebble.
If you want an agency where there is a culture of learning and growth; be the pebble.
If you want leadership to be a culture, not a course; be the pebble.
You want to have a culture of accountability where people take ownership for their decisions and actions and stand up and own up when they screw up; be the pebble.
If you want to have a culture where people celebrate the daily successes and good work (small and large); be the pebble.
If you want a culture where people learn from their failures, and share those lessons so everyone can learn; be the pebble.
If you want a culture where people share their close calls and near misses and the lessons learned; be the pebble.
If you want a culture where wellness is embraced as an officer safety issue; be the pebble.
If you want a culture where people are trained for critical thinking, not compliance; be the pebble.
You don’t have to be a 1,000 pound boulder to create change. You can be the pebble who starts the ripple and then be intentional about building the tribe who turns the ripples into waves.
“One person can make a difference. You don’t have to be a big shot. You don’t have to have a lot of influence. You just have to have faith in your power to change things.”
Norman Vincent Peale
Take care.
