It’s too easy to read all the great evaluations after a training class and start to think that you are great.
It’s too easy after you hear people tell you what a great class it was and how much they loved your presentation to think you are the star.
It’s too easy when you are always on the stage or at the from of the room to think you are the star of the show.
It’s too easy to buy into all the great stuff people say about you during the introduction.
It’s too easy to fall into the trap of thinking you are the hero, you are the star of the show, and that you are the reason there are butts in the seats.
Heed the advice of Nancy Duarte and always remember that the audience is the hero and your job is to be the wise and humble mentor.
Take your passion, combine it with great content and deliver it in a compelling way and always keep in mind that the audience is the hero. The people in attendance are the stars of the show. They are reason why you can do what you do. Without them there is no show.
When people tell you what a great job you did and what a great speaker you are say, “Thank you. I appreciate that.”, then get back to work to make the next presentation even better for the next batch heroes in the audience.
Take care.
