“So often we dwell on the things that seem impossible rather than on the things that are possible. So often we are depressed by what remains to be done and forget to be thankful for all that has been done.”
– Marian Wright Edelman
Are you frustrated by budget cuts, seemingly impossible training deadlines, the continual requests to ‘do more with less?
Are you frustrated by students who sometimes seem indifferent, administrators who see training as a necessary evil at best, lack of facilities and lack of equipment?
You can dwell on the negative and become bitter, twisted and cynical and join the ranks of the whining, sniveling malcontents.
Or you can take a breath and let it go. Then:
Focus on all that is right with the profession and the great people in it.
Focus on what is possible and make the most of the time, money, facilities and equipment you do have.
Focus on what you have accomplished.
Focus on the great strides you personally have made improving training in your agency.
Focus on the lives you have impacted and the lives you have saved.
Focus on the improvements in training overall within the law enforcement profession.
Focus on the people who come to training to learn and who put in a great effort when they are there.
Focus on the privilege you have to train members of the law enforcement profession.
And, you can start saving now and make sure you attend the 2013 ILEETA Conference in Wheeling, IL in April and the 2013 Legacy of Excellence Conference in Calgary, AB in September.
Life is about choice. Choose wisely and always remember Life’s Most Powerful Question – What’s Important Now?
[hr]Take care.
