Our Lives Change in One of Two Ways……

“Our lives basically change in two ways –
the people we meet and the books we read.”

Charles “Tremendous” Jones

In the last post I promised I would provide a recommended reading list. This proved more difficult than I imagined as there are so many great books that have helped and inspired me to become a better trainer. I went through the list a number of times and narrowed it down.

Here is my list:

InsideOut Coaching: How Sports Can Transform Lives By Joe Ehrmann

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success By Carol Dweck

Presentation Zen By Garr Reynolds

Telling Ain’t Training  By Harold Stolovitch and Erica Keeps

Police Instructor by Richard Neal

Nerve By Taylor Clark

The Art of Learning By Josh Waitzkin

The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs By Carmen Gallo

Made to Stick By Chip and Dan Heath

The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker

The Talent Code By Daniel Coyle

Positive Words, Powerful Results by Hal Urban

Training at the Speed of Life by Ken Murray

Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield

The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us By Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simons

With Winning in Mind by Lanny Bassham

Mind Gym by Gary Mack

Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by Dr. Bob Rotella

Be Excellent at Anything By Tony Schwartz

Highest Duty By Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger

Good to Great By Jim Collins

Sources of Power by Gary Klein

Favorite Non-Lawenforcement Magazine:

Success Magazine

Favorite Blogs:

The Monday Motivator By Scott Westerman

Presentation Zen by Garr Reynolds

Nick Morgan, Public Words

Of course I would highly recommend the books we have published through Warrior Spirit Books which are available at www.warriorspisitbooks.com.

Charlie Jones said our lives change in two ways: The books we read and the people we meet. So in addition to reading it is important to attend live training events and meet the thought leaders, innovators, and fellow trainers in our profession. As a trainer if you can only attend one event a year make it the ILEETA Annual Training Conference. The 2013 conference will be the biggest and best ever as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of ILEETA.

If you are looking for an innovative instructor development course that will enable you to get the most out of your training and your officers Excellence in Training is for you. Excellence in Training is a course that will challenge the way you thnik about and deliver training. For a list of dates and locations for upcoming Excellence in Training Courses go to www.brianw260.sg-host.com and click on the Training Schedule Link.

Let me know what is on your recommended reading list, your favorite blogs, magazines and training programs.

Take care.
