Instead of starting with, “It is a pleasure/honour/privilege for me to be here.”, start with your content.
Instead of starting with, “I am nervous to be standing here in front of you today.”, start with your content.
Instead of starting with, “I wasn’t sure if anyone was going to show up at my session today.”, start with content.
Instead of starting with, “It is tough to have to follow (fill in the name of the previous speaker(s).”, start with content.
Instead of starting with your bio, start with content and weave your bio briefly into your presentation.
People in the audience are there to hear what you have to say on the topic you are speaking on. They are there to learn. They hope they have invested their time well and will leave with some key takeaways that will make them better at their job or in their life.
You are at the front of the room speaking for a reason so be confident, be yourself (ideally the best version of yourself) and start with your message. That will let the audience know you are there for them, that you believe in yourself and you believe in your message.
Next presentation you do, start with content.
Take care.
