As a trainer sometimes you need to take a step back.
Take a step back from where you are with your skills and tactics.
Take a step back from where you are with your level of experience, knowledge wisdom and expertise.
Take a step back from where you are in the realm of law enforcement being a career or a calling.
Take a step back from a maturity perspective.
Take a step back from a commitment perspective.
Take a step back from a self belief perspective.
Where you are now, is not where you were when you started, or where you were at any previous point in your career.
You did not always have the skills, knowledge and abilities you do now. Your wisdom and insights have come from evaluating your experiences, mistakes, failures, and successes. This likely was not always a career or a calling for you. For many of us it started as a job then we got hooked and it became a career and for some of us it has evolved into a calling. Your level of maturity has grown from the years and the experiences. Your belief in your abilities has come from hundreds or thousands of hours of practice and application and your level of commitment has likely ebbed and flowed through the years.
Before you complain about the “new generation” of men and women coming into this profession – Take a step back.
Take care.
