What if you created a series of 10 minute Roll Call trainings for your agency that could be delivered at shift briefing? Every week these would be used to deliver training on leadership, policy, legal issues, tactics, physical skills, and mental preparation.
What if you then helped your frontline supervisors, your FTOs / PTOs and current and former instructors working in the field to deliver or facilitate the training?
What if you polled people in your agency for ideas on what is of interest to them and developed training to meet their needs?
What if you developed Lessons Learned training modules based on actual incidents from your agency with people talking about what they learned from the incident?
What if you developed Close Calls lessons based on incidents where luck was a big factor in the incident not becoming a tragedy?
What if you had a monthly 10 minute video session with upper management titled, “What were you thinking?” where people in key leadership positions discuss their thought process and all the factors they had to consider when making decisions influencing the agency?
What if you not only thought differently about training, but you did something about it?
I know there are options to use short training videos developed by other people, but what if you did your own to make it very specific to your agency?
What if?
Take care.
